History of Freeman Catholic College
Freeman Catholic College was established to serve the Parishes of John the Baptist (Bonnyrigg Heights), Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Mt Pritchard), Mary Immaculate (Bossley Park), and Our Lady of Victories (Horsley Park).
Fr. John Langtry, the founding Parish Priest of Bonnyrigg Heights, was the motivational force behind the new school.
It was Fr. John who suggested to Cardinal Freeman that the new College be named in his honour. Cardinal Freeman agreed and he officially opened stage 1 on 30th June, 1985. The new school began in 6 demountable classrooms with 105 students and 9 teachers.
Today the school is a well resourced College with modern facilities catering for the needs of 1300 students and a teaching and support staff of 114.
Our goal at Freeman is to provide QUALITY CATHOLIC EDUCATION. We believe that good education is about setting high standards and challenging, motivating and encouraging students to achieve those standards.
We provide two very distinct challenges for all students at this College. The first challenge is to be a GOOD PERSON. Each day the students are challenged to live out traditional family and gospel values. That is to be respectful, patient, kind, forgiving and understanding in their dealings with each other. We make no apologies for the fact that we demand high standards of discipline from our students. We have clear expectations for students in respect to their manners, uniform, grooming and conduct. Good organisation and fair discipline provide a safe secure environment, where all students can be happy and enjoy their learning in a positive environment.
The second challenge is the challenge to be a GOOD STUDENT. We ask that each student give their personal best. That is a 100% effort to their classroom studies and a commitment to their personal study program and homework each evening. The College has a clear focus on the Higher School Certificate and the academic results have been outstanding in recent years.
The College is blessed with a mixture of young and experienced staff who are enthusiastic, talented and generous who have a wonderful relationship with their students. The Freeman students are well mannered, co-operative, friendly and come from caring and supportive families. Freeman is a great school and the College motto sums up our spirit: Proclaim the Good News.
Congratulations to the HSC class of 2014! This year has seen Freeman achieve their highest results ever. The student’s achieved 193 band 6s and placed 86th on the SMHs top 100 schools list.
